Walls & Futures REIT plc comments on the Prime Minister’s announcement that Local Housing Allowance cap will not apply to Supported Housing

Commenting on the Government’s announcement that the Local Housing Allowance cap on housing benefit will no longer apply to the social housing sector, made by Prime Minister Theresa May at Prime Minister’s Questions (Wednesday, 25th October),

Joe McTaggart, chief executive of Walls & Futures REIT plc said

“We welcome this announcement as the government has clearly been listening to the concerns raised about the potential consequences of capping housing benefit in the social housing sector at Local Housing Allowance (LHA) rates, especially for vulnerable people living in supported housing.

During the period of uncertainty, many supported housing schemes have been canceled or mothballed. We have taken a more positive outlook and our sustainable funding model has enabled us to continue to invest and deliver supported housing places.

We look forward to the full details of the funding proposals next week.”
